New to LM, What's a codec and where do i get one

Hi, I'm sorry to bother you but this is my first time downloading from LM. It went fine but when I tried to play the video, it said I need codec. What's that and how do I get it? I've never done this before.

Thanks for helping me out with that. I'm still not in the clear with it yet, tho. I downloaded the avi type but no video still. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here. But thanks for trying to help me.

You would need to look at the file description. Most on there are xvid (the ones I did anyway).. so you would most likely need that one.

Once you download, you will need to install it. You usually don't have to restart when installing codecs.

You could always download one of those codec packs which will install a whole bunch. Then you wouldn't have to worry about it (much).
