LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Brittany Murphy is beginning work on the indie feature "Across the Hall," is eyeing a role in the dark comedy "Poor Things," on which she would replace Lindsay Lohan.

In "Hall," Murphy stars opposite Mike Vogel ("Cloverfield") and Danny Pino ("The Burning Plain") in a thriller about a brutal standoff between a young man (Vogel), his fiancee and his best friend (Pino). The cast also includes Dov Davidoff ("Invincible"), Brad Greenquist ("Shiloh Falls") and Guillermo Diaz ("Weeds").

Directed by Alex Merkin from a screenplay by Jesse Mittelstadt and Julien Schwab, "Hall" is based on Merkin's award-winning 2005 short film that starred Adrian Grenier ("Entourage").

Meanwhile, Murphy -- who also has been cast in "Sin City 2" -- is under consideration as a replacement for Lohan in "Poor," though negotiations have not yet begun.

Lohan fell out of the project in May when she admitted herself to a rehabilitation facility.

Murphy would join a cast that includes Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Rosario Dawson and Channing Tatum.

"Poor" revolves around two female con artists who befriend and then murder homeless men in order to collect on their insurance policies. Trent Haaga penned the script.

Scott Marshall, whose directorial credits include "Blonde Ambition" and "Keeping Up With the Steins," has come aboard to direct the film. He replaces Ash Baron Cohen, who departed over what was described as "creative differences." - Reuters/Hollywood Reporter

Who cares really? It's not like a tiny movie like this is going to help or hurt her career. Murphy should go ahead and do it yeah, time will tell if she takes it.

Poor Things must be some movie if they still haven't managed to get it made. Lindsay has a bunch of free time now, so they're obviously not holding out for her.

Well Lindsay may still be in it cause she talked about it in the Glamour magazine Interview. I want her to work with Shirley MacLaine and Olympia Dukakis. Shirley MacLaine is great as is Olympia Dukakis. And remember Shirley MacLaine has close ties with Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep wink.gif The more seasoned actors you can get giving you a good reference the better.

If it's a director that has that kind of resume you don't even want to see this movie made. Seems like to me that this is a project which will die at some point.

Tell me about it. Don't care if she got to work with Shirley whatever, but the director's resume is so bad!

As far as sources go Hollywood Reporter is the most reliable one out there. The article never actually says that she will replace her, she might replace her.

Which basically means it's a rumour and they're not saying it's anything else so their ass is covered regardless of how it turns out.
